Around this time last year, Psychonauts fans may remember Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson publicly declaring on Twitter that he would personally fund the development of Double Fine’s highly underrated platformer sequel.
Now it appears that Notch is no longer quite as enthused, after learning that the budget aim for Psychonauts 2 is set at $18 million.
Notch stated on Reddit:
“I somewhat naively thought ‘a couple of million’ was two million. I had no doubt in my mind that a Psychonauts 2 would earn that money back easily.
“Turns out they wanted 18 million dollars, haha. I don’t have the time at the moment to even try to get educated enough to make an eighteen million dollar deal.”
Strangely, however, Double Fine director Tim Schafer previously claimed a year ago that Notch was willing to $13 million, contradicting his statement on believing the budget would only cost $2 million.
It sure is a shame, but hopefully this game will finally see the light of day.
