With THQ’s bankruptcy, the publisher had to auction off all its properties, which were sold to big publishers like Sega, Ubisoft, EA and some others. Among the publisher’s properties was the Darksiders series which has been mildly successful, with a second title of the series released only a few months ago.

Despite all this, it looked like no one was willing to buy Vigil, the Darksiders series developers and only a last time action by Crytek allowed the developers not to dissolve. However it looks like the Darksiders series won’t be coming back anytime soon, since it doesn’t fit Crytek’s strategy as of now.

Speaking about the newly formed Crytek USA, created with former Vigil members, Crytek’s head Cevat Yerli states that the team won’t be working on Darksiders 3 next since Crytek doesn’t want a single team focused on a single franchise: the team will decide what is best for them within Crytek’s strategy and framework. Mister Yerli has total faith in the team and he’s sure they will come up with something good even outside their beloved franchise.

In other words, Darksiders will indeed make a come back but you shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for it since it’s probably gonna be a longer wait than anyone expected.
