Dark Souls 2 is probably one of the most anticipated upcoming titles: with the game being around 25% done, it doesn’t look like it will be released during 2013 but this doesn’t prevent fans to get hyped when hearing about some new details on the game. As we already know, the new director will try to change things up a little, without going too much away from the series roots: the game will still be harsh but a lot less obscure than before since this time, the most complicated mechanics will be explained by new in game tutorials, something that was missing in the other games of the series.
New details on the game’s locations and gameplay have emerged today: the game’s events will take place in a large cove near the ocean but it’s still unknown if it will feature some open locations like Dark Souls or go back to the system used in Demon’s Souls. The story will be a lot less obscure but there won’t be many cutscenes explaining it since the developers don’t want to completely abandon the style used in the previous games. At the same time though, players will have a bit more control on the story’s events and killing or sparing some NPCs life will have an impact on the overall plot.
Multiplayer mode also received some new details: Dark Souls 2 will be server based just like Demon’s Souls and as such we should expect something similar regarding the World Tendency feature, together with some elements introduced in the first Dark Souls.
Lastly, new tutorials have finally been confirmed: this will allow new comers to the series to enjoy the game to the fullest without having to move in the dark like in the previous episodes.
Dark Souls 2 will be launching on Pc, Xbox 360 and Ps3.
