Ever since the Newtown Connecticut tragedy, politicians from all over the country have been trying to blame video games as much as guns for the tragic incident. And each time I think we have hit a new low, a new politician appears and shows that they can still find new lows that were previously unreachable. Today we have U.S. senator Lamar Alexander (a Tennessee Republican) who during an interview said that video games are worse than guns.

His exact statement was: ”I think video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people”.

And again to all the politicians out there, there is little to no evidence linking violent video games to real world violence. But at this point it I don’t think any of these politicians care what we in the gaming industry think. You have to think that the majority of these Senators and Governors who are making these ridiculous claims are trying to shift the blame away from the gun industry.

The video game industry is an easy target and it doesn’t have the money that Hollywood or the NRA has for lobbying. So the end result is, the video game industry gets targeted to shift the blame from guns and a substandard mental health practices.
