While Square Enix is pushing the Final Fantasy XIII saga, using the same graphical engine originally developed for Final Fantasy XIII not showing too many graphical improvements, the japanese developers have been working on a new graphical engine, and they have been working for quite a few years on it, with the first videos been shown to the public ever since the last months of 2011. Many gamers are speculating that the videos are more than simple demonstration of Square Enix next gen graphical engine, called Luminous Engine, but a prototype for the first next gen Final Fantasy game.
The video has all the elements which make a Final Fantasy game: wizards, political intrigue, crystals, flashy magic spells, futuristic cities and a mysterious armed squad which tries to kill off Agni and her companions as they try to defend some sort of secret in a location which could be a temple of some sorts. Square Enix assures watchers that all the video is done with real time graphics and it looks simply gorgeous. If this is truly a taste of next gen, we can expect some great things in the near future.
Three new videos have been made available which showcase some of the capabilities of the engine. If you have seen the older videos, you’ll surely notice the improvements made to each scene.
