One of the most popular online shooters of all time, Halo 2, will be getting it’s servers taken down pretty soon. It’s been nearly a decade since the game first launched, and it’s pretty disappointing to see the online component finally get terminated. Bungie recently announced that the game’s online servers will be pulled on February 15. You can still play multiplayer over local and LAN settings, that’s not going anywhere, but I’m sure that the online was the biggest reason people played the game. Bungie has stated that they had been “monitoring the game’s population.”
They said that no more than 20 people would be online at a time, so the decision to pull the game’s online wasn’t a tough one. Having servers up costs money, money I’m sure the developers or publishers don’t wanna spend for 20 people. I’m sure that these few players will be able to get their Halo fix, there have been a number of new Halo games to play. Halo 4 being the most recent, it’s a pretty good game, and it could easily replace Halo 2. I know that its silly to say that, but those few dedicated fans of Halo 2 may not want to move on. Next month, they’ll have no choice but to move on.
