Dust 514 is an upcoming free to play shooter developed by CCP Games and coming on Playstation 3 in the next months. The game is connected to another CCP Games product called Eve Online and actions taken during Dust 514 will have consequences in Eve Online as well. Gamplay wise the game will feature first person shooter action with some elements taken from MMORPG games: players will be able to customize their characters with weapons of their choice and equipment. Skill training will also be in, allowing players to specialize in some specific roles: the system has been built so that it’s going to be really time consuming to master all skills, making player specialize in only a few roles. The game will also have a good selection vehicles, improving the strategic features of the game even further.

It’s now been announced that the game’s open beta will begin on January 22nd: players will be able to download the game and start playing. CCP Games has stated that starting from this date, they’ll be working hard to add new features to the game and connect it even further to the Eve Online Universe.

For players who have had their characters reset during the closed beta phases, they won’t have to worry about this anymore: their characters are here to stay and won’t be touched by the developers.

For players who haven’t been able to get in the closed beta but still wish to begin the game without having to start from zero, there’s a Mercenary DLC pack available and for everyone who plays a match before January 22nd will obtain 100.000 skill points to be used in the open beta.
