Half Life 2 is one of the most appreciated games of all times: developed by Valve, the first person shooter was released in 2004 after being in development for over 5 years and after many leaks made much of the game’s content widely available. The game was ported numerous times, together with updates on the game itself and some expansions.
The development of the expansions has been as critical as the development of the full game: Half Life 2 received an extra level called Lost Coast and two expansion sequels, called Episode One and Episode Two. The two extra episodes continue the story of the main game, with a thrid episode planned to end the expansion trilogy. However Episode 3 has been in development for quite a long time, with no real detail on it available.
Valve was originally developing another Half Life 2 expansion called Episode 4: Return To Ravenholm, taking place sometime before Episode 2. The expansion was being developed by Arkane Studios between 2006 and 2007 before being cancelled. Some new images have been uncovered by ValveTime showcasing some of the game’s locations and even gameplay ideas: in the HUD there’s an absorption value probably used for a new gameplay feature.
