World of Warcraft players often get a lot of heat with all the accusations placed against them, saying that their lives are being wasted or that nothing productive can come out of their playing of the game. However, Blizzard has recently proved otherwise with their announcement of World of Warcraft players worldwide raising over $2.3 million for victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Back at the beginning of December, Blizzard announced a new pet available for adoption through WoW called the Cinder Kitten (great name BTW). Blizzard said that 100% of the $10 required to adopt the pet would go to the American Red Cross for their Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. This event lasted through December 31, 2012 and every Cinder Kitten pet sold until then went towards the total $2.3 million earned.
Blizzard thanked everyone through this post on the BattleNet blog and I would also like to extend my thanks to Blizzard and the players for their aid.
It’s great to see a community raise so much money for victims and it really shows what gamers can get accomplished through combined efforts.
