Activision announced today that the Skylanders franchise has reached the $500 million sales mark in the United States alone. The franchise debuted in 2011 with Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure and haven’t looked back since. Activision was even pointed out that sales of Skylander Giants by itself made more money this holiday season than both Wreck-it-Ralph and Rise of the Guardians.
According to Activision Skylander Giants actually made $195 million since it was released last year. And by last year I mean three months ago, Skylander Giants has made $195 million in sales in three months.
The Skylander figures have been proven to be even more popular than Beyblades, WWE, and Star Wars toy lines. So to say the Skylanders franchise has been successful would be a pretty big understatement.
The series has been so popular that Disney will be copying the formula and introducing their own game with Disney based characters sometime in the future. It will be interesting to watch in the future as Disney’s game goes head to head with the Skylanders franchise and see which comes out on top.
