Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is quickly approaching its release date and that’s quite a feat, considering how the game was so close to getting canned for good. The game’s development history is quite troubled: starting as a stealth game with some hack and slash elements, handled as usual by Hideo Kojima’s studio KojiPro, the team was having a hard time in creating a fun gameplay experience and eventually gave up on the game when most of the plot elements were ready. Hideo Kojima didn’t give up though, and asked Platinum Games to take care of the game’s development: they accepted the offer and the game was reborn as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
The game’s core gameplay was completely revamped: the game is now more of an action adventure game with some stealth elements. For the rest we can expect the flashy and stylish gameplay formula Platinum Games is known for and the game looks like it will really deliver, according to many recent reports.
Players who preorder the game, getting released on February 19 in North America and February 21 in Europe on Ps3 and Xbox 360, will be able to download some exclusive DLC content, allowing them to play as the first cyborg ninja of the Metal Gear series, Grey Fox: it’s just a simple reskin so Raiden’s skills won’t change but nostalgics will definitely be pleased by the feature. New screenshots have been released finally showing the skin in action: you can see one below.
