Nintendo is continuing its development of the Wii U’s Virtual Console, the large library of retro games currently available on the Wii and 3DS.
While the Wii U’s eShop is online and has provided original, fun downloadable games, many users are still waiting for the VC to bring back the classics. You can still access it through the Wii Menu, but not yet the Wii U eShop itself.
Nintendo told Kotaku that they are currently in the process of “moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U”.
Perhaps most interestingly though, is that Nintendo have confirmed that VC games will be fully playable on the GamePad screen alone; meaning you can take Majora’s Mask or Sonic the Hedgehog to bed with you.
We plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone.
When asked which new platforms the Wii U Virtual Console will support, the representative simply stated that ”we do not have any specifics to share at this time.” However, when asked about downloadable Gamecube games on Wii U, Reggie has said in the past that he’d “love for that to happen”. The possibility was also rumoured in a previous issue of Retro Gamer.
