Microsoft has reportedly made yet another acquisition and this time it is one that is headed right for the Xbox division to help with what looks to be how users will interface with their Xbox consoles. It can’t be easy to be a startup with a good idea. Many startups are simply happy to survive a few years, very few turn into bigger companies and most are simply waiting not to become profitable but for a bigger company to come in and scoop them up for a decent sum of money. For id8 Group R2 Studios that is exactly what happened to them as Microsoft has apparently decided that they would make a good addition to the Xbox family.
R2 Studios is best known for displaying and controlling digital media on home entertainment systems and were shopping around, in talks with both Apple and Google before finding a home in Microsoft. One would have to assume that R2 Studios personnel and patents will quickly be brought into the fold for the Kinect and for SmartGlass applications.
