Shigeru Miyamoto has been talking to GamesMaster about the next most hotly anticipated upcoming Wii U title Pikmin 3. The Nintendo producer revealed that Pikmin 3 will be more like the original game in the franchise, as opposed to the relatively stress-free Pikmin 2.
The first game had a time limit attached to your progress, whereas Pikmin 2 removed the stress element and made it more user-friendly. Miyamoto admits that he did not agree with this direction, as he wants the games to feel as strategic as possible.
He gathered the staff members who worked on Pikmin 2 and persuaded them to abide by his original intentions and “get back to the basics of Pikmin 1“.
I’m on the fence about this. I’m all for limits set on the player, as a tense and strategic experience can be just as engaging as a stress-free playthrough. My only concern is whether a time limit will restrict players’ time to explore the beautiful world of Pikmin, especially now the franchise is welcomed to HD.
Pikmin 3 currently has no specific release date, but has been confirmed to release exclusively to Wii U in the second quarter of the year.
Are you pleased by this news, or did you prefer Pikmin 2‘s style?
