The shutting down of online services for many games has been a problem for quite some time: terminating online play basically means taking away a good chunk of a game, reducing its overall quality. The problem becomes even more serious when servers and online services for games that require an always on connection get terminated making the game impossible to play.

Electronic Arts has today announced some more servers shutdown for a few of their older sports game: all of the 2011 EA Sports game will loose all multiplayer modes. Among them are Fifa 2011, NBA Jam, Madden NFL 2011, NBA Live 2010 and a few others. While most of these games have been receiving new updated games every year, NBA Live latest entry is indeed the one from 2010: EA Sports failed to reboot the series in the last few years and offered updated rosters for the 2010 version. With the servers’ shut down, no NBA Live game will be playable online until a new title gets released and no one will know when that happens. All services for these games will be terminated on January 11

Another widely played EA title will get its servers shut down for good in January: The Sims 2 Online Services will end on January 14.
