As a spin off of the Dynasty Warriors series, players probably know what to expect from One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2, releasing on March 2013 in Japan, with a western release date slated for a generic Summero 2013. The first game already showed some promise in trying to add some variety to the game’s stages, even though the platforming sections could have been implemented better.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 promises to spice things up even more than in the first game: stages will be bigger and offer even more variety than before, more villains have been added and all the old characters will be tweaked and improved. The Main Log mode will follow the manga’s storyline even more closely, adding story arcs absent in the first game.
Thanks to the latest issue of V-Jump magazine, new gameplay details have surfaced: the main cast will be able to change fighting style, unlocking even more flashier combo and special attacks. For example, Luffy will be able to use the power of Haki, a mysterious power only the strongest pirates and marines in the One Piece world can handle, to increase his strength and defense and make more special attacks available.
The new details don’t end here: One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 will also feature a special “What If” mode, replacing the generic “Another Log” mode of the first game, allowing players to re-play completed stages with different characters.
One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 will be released on March 2013 in Japan on both Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. The Playstation 3 version has also been confirmed for North America and Europe with a Summer release date: it’s yet unknown if the Playstation Vita version will be released in the west as well.
