This week marked the beginning of the 2012 Arena Pass for World of Warcraft. For those who do not know, the Arena Pass is an event Blizzard hold every year that is entirely dedicated to the arena aspect of the game. Players who sign up are able to log onto a special server, where they are able to create up to three characters. These characters are instantly created at the max level, and have access to the best gear possible. This server is unique in that it does not have any computer controlled creatures around the world. Though players can still visit other zones, there is not much to do since all the creatures and instances have been taken out. All the players have to do is focus on finding a 3v3 arena team and practicing to perfect their teams strategy!
This week is the start of what is called the “practice phase” of the event, which will last two weeks. During this time players are able to practice with their teams and decide which team composition they want to play with for the next part of the event. This is also a chance for players who do not have a dedicated team on this arena server to find an arena team. Though the games played during this phase do no count for the actually event, it is a good opprutinity for teams to make important decisions about how they would like to compete in the following weeks.
So what is this event for? Well obviously the biggest draw to this event is the competitive nature. For those who live for arenas this arena-only server is a dream come true. However, there are also other various rewards. For players who win enough games during the non-practice phase of this event, they will be rewarded with an Armored Murloc pet for their characters on the live servers. If players continue to prove themselves worth, they will also earn the “Vanquisher” title for their characters on the live servers. All of these things are a big draw for players hoping to compete in the Arena Pass.

For the price of $20 players are able to jump into this arena server and earn rewards for their characters on live servers, not to mention they get to compete against some of the best arena teams in the world!
