Legend of Zelda fans everywhere were thrilled to hear the news that Shigeru Miyamoto has interest in working on a new game similar to A Link to the Past from the SNES.
In a recent interview, Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about SNES games like A Link to the Past being ported or remade as 3DS titles, and his answer was more than fans bargained for.
“I think the answer would be the same if we’re talking about just porting, but I think I’d be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it’s important to bring some really new software.”
Past that, Miyamoto went on at length about how he would plan out a new 2D Zelda game and whether it would be a remake of the originals or a new adventure entirely. Whilst he noted that certain directors would be able to make something great out of it with a fresh retro approach, but others would need to look at it as more of a remake. Depending on the developers and directors available to him would depend on the kind of game they would produce.
Miyamoto has had his eye on A Link to the Past for some time now, often citing it as an important Legend of Zelda game which has sparked rumours that he would be remaking or porting it for 3DS. This news of a potential new game to the series brings a lot of hope to fans everywhere.
