PAX East has just blown by and it brought a huge amount of new video gaming news with it. Gearbox Software had a little announcement to make concerning their upcoming new game, Borderlands 2.

Gearbox have already mentioned that they want to put more character customisation into the game so that players can feel more unique, but they failed to mention that they were working on more classes beyond the initial four already included in the game.

Announced as pre-order DLC for Borderlands 2, the Mechromancer was revealed to be a bonus to everyone who pre-ordered the game and will be made available at a “price comparable to most DLC” to other players at a later date.

The Mechromancer appears to be a cyberpunk influenced punk girl who’s customised herself with some home-made augmetics. Whilst not many details about her abilities have been released, it was mentioned that she can controll D374-TP (Deathtrap) robots.

It’s speculated that she may be a “Hunter” class, using mid-ranged weapons and her pet robots to deal damage quickly.

Past the announcement of the new class, a collectors edition for Borderlands 2 was also announced. The packaging will be made to look like the iconic Borderlands loot box and will include a Marcus bobblehead. It will retails for $149.99, but no other details have been revealed yet.

A tentative release date of September 18th is still quite far away, but there’s plenty more details yet to be revealed.
