It seems the Wii U may be getting another port of a major franchise in the near future, we just don’t know what franchise yet. According to the people who are porting over Mass Effect 3 to the Wii U, they will be porting over another major title to the Wii U after they are done with their current work. The only thing we know at this point is that it will be a triple-A Square Enix title.

Forum members on the Neogaf discovered a interview with Tom Crago, the CEO of Australian studio Straight Right who made some comments on what the team is working on besides Mass Effect 3:

“We’ve made a few bets on Wii U actually so we’re certainly hoping it does well. In addition to ME3 we have an original Wii U title in development, and we’ve started on another big game in a well known franchise that will be released in 2013.”

The Neogaf community being as astute as they are followed up by finding Straight Right’s Technical Project Manager Chris Wright LinkedIn page which has since been changed but at the time it read:

“working for Straight Right on a short term contract, porting a triple-A Square Enix game to the yet-to-be-released Wii U platform.”

So the only thing we have to go on right now is that it is “a well known franchise” and it is a Square Enix franchise, so that leads to several possibilities Deus Ex: Human Revolution,Hitman, Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy. It could also be a well known franchise like Just Cause, but that game has been out for a while and I don’t know if Square Enix would find it viable to port an older game like Just Cause 2 over to the Wii U.

My guess is that it will be Tomb Raider or Hitman: Absolution, because the games are still in development and could possibly be released only a month or two after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. But that is all just speculation, but chances are we will get official word on what game it is once the Mass Effect 3 port for the Wii U has been released.

What major Squar Enix triple-A franchise do you want to see ported over to the Wii U?
