In an interesting series of events, information on an upcoming story-based DLC pack for Borderlands 2 leaked earlier in the day. Some trophy information and a few screenshots were making their way across news sites, with many speculating on specifics of the new quests. Just after the supposed leak, however, Gearbox confirmed the existence of the DLC, going one step further to announce that it is coming as early as next week.
The downloadable content is entitled “Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty,” and takes players to a new setting by the name of Oasis. The town of Oasis is located in the middle of a desert, and is controlled by Captain Scarlett herself. The new quests will have players facing off against new enemies in the form of sandworms, and will also give players a new vehicle called a Sand Skiff (which looks very similar to those seen in Return of the Jedi) to play around with. Randy Pitchford has even compared the setting to that of Tatooine, and the inspiration is clear.
Throughout your journey, you will find Seraph Crystals, a brand new rare currency used to purchase items in Oasis, though it hasn’t been stated what these items will be exactly. Of course, a new DLC pack wouldn’t be complete without tons of new rare and unique loot, and the area is sure to be full of it. Apart from weapons and shields, players will also be finding new customization skins for all classes.
The announcement that the DLC is coming so soon is a surprising one, though it explains Gearbox’s decision to release the Mechromancer Class a week early. All of this is available for only $9.99, which is an amazing deal for such a large add-on.
